Canopy powers the PolyAPI Management UI and serves as a broader tool for Poly customers to build operational applications. Some fields in internal tools can be highly technical, requiring extra explanation—whether it’s formatting rules, allowed values, exclusivity constraints, or complex notation. We’ve all encountered fields that aren’t immediately intuitive.

Introducing Tooltips in Canopy

To improve usability, release 20 introduces tooltips, allowing application creators to provide additional context for any field. These tooltips offer more space to explain field usage, helping users understand complex inputs more easily.

In Canopy configuration, a tooltip can be added per property like this:

Once rendered in the application, tooltips appear like this:

Light Mode Preview

Dark Mode Preview

Each tooltip level is optional, offering flexibility in how much detail is provided.

Future Enhancements

We’re continuously improving Canopy’s usability. Future updates will include:

  • Additional field types, such as calendar/time pickers and map elements.
  • Field-level validation rules to enforce data integrity.
  • Function-powered field population for dynamic data entry.
  • An intuitive editor to streamline the creation of Canopy applications.
